Reasons

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die." (John 11:24-25)

I want to succeed in life first. Salvation is worth more than anything you can get on Earth. While you are making a success of yourself your life is ticking away - how long do you have? Jesus spoke about a rich man who decided to take his ease and retire - but he died that very night. Jesus was making the point about priorities - just what is worth missing out on salvation? Being a Christian doesn't mean you cannot be a success but it does mean serving God first

I am not a sinner. You may find this hard to believe. But the Bible says that everyone is a sinner because the the standard you are measured against is God Himself. You may think you are good but that is only by your own standards - the Bible says that the standard is God's holiness - are you up to that standard? We are not trying to disparage anything you have done or say that it is worthless. People can be non-Christians and lead selfless, loving lives (and do so) but the standard of goodnesss for anyone is impossibly high which is why Christ came and died for us - He attained that sinlesss life we couldn't.

I am as good as others. This is a comparison with other human beings who are in the same state as yourself - they do not live up to the standard of God's holiness.

I am too much of a sinner. Christ can save all sinners and forgives all sins. You are never too bad for God.

Christians are hypocrites. Not all Christians are hypocrites though, especially those who become missionaries and give up lucrative jobs and comfortable lifestyles and maybe lose their lives as well. Would you give up, say, golf, because some golfers are hypocrites? Other Christians are not the issue - it is a question of whether Christ was a hypocrite - and he certainly wasn't.

I am confused. The way of salvation is simple. The reason that you need to be saved is clear.

I don't understand. Do you refuse to drive a car because you don't understand how the engine works, or starve because you never understood digestion? Christ is a mystery but don't let that stop you accepting Him as Lord and Saviour.

It doesn't seem fair - I didn't ask to be born. No you didn't but God created you to have eternal life with Him. If you get saved then you won't be concerned about fairness but start to understand that the life you will receive in heaven will be that wonderful that you will be glad that you were born.

What would my friends think? Does it matter? Do you want the good opinion of friends when you are in Hell and can't get out. What do your friends know about salvation - God is calling you, now and not your friends.
